Cats are not like dogs, and photographing them is a different art entirely. You can’t direct a cat. You can only earn its trust, read its mood, and be ready the moment it decides to give you something magic. That’s exactly the kind of photography I love. I work with every cat, from tiny kittens taking in the world for the first time to wise old seniors who have seen it all and approve of none of it. Long-haired show cats, scruffy rescues, one-of-a-kind moggies, every coat and every character is welcome.
I keep my studio calm and quiet, with no other animals around and no rush, so even the most cautious cat has time to explore, settle and relax before we begin. Some cats strut straight onto the backdrop like they own it. Others need a while to decide I’m trustworthy. Either way, I let your cat lead, and I wait for the real moments, the slow blink, the regal stare, the sudden burst of play. The result is photographs that genuinely look like your cat, not a startled animal wishing it were somewhere else.
